Abolishing the University?

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Mark Taylor in the NYT on why the University “as we know it” should be abolished.

Many commenters pointed out that Taylor is over-generalizing problems unique to the humanities to the entire university.  Science, math and engineering graduates don’t have many problems finding work, because graduate work in these disciplines remains necessary and relevant.

Mark Taylor made his name in part by retailing deconstruction and other trendy theories into his field (religious studies). Beginning in the Eighties (earlier in France and Germany), the humanities turned to deconstructing the Western tradition instead of defending, extending or engaging it. But what does a parasite do when its host dies?

AP: Sebelius “lowballed” Tiller donations

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

HHS nominee and former Kansas governor Kathleen Sibelius understated the amount of contributions she received from notorious later-term abortion doctor and documented practicer of infanticide George Tiller.

Simply receiving money from this man for any purpose should be enough to disqualify her from receiving Communion–never mind any other issues about policy.

It also shows that even the left-wing AP will occasionally run a story originating with pro-lifers if their documentation is good.
